The guesthouse Alice
opened its doors to visitors on 21st of April
in 1998. We have completed the first stage of a renovated
house. We are glad to introduce our guesthouse as follows:
the house itself with its pretty architecture was
designed by architect Olev Siinmaa in 1939. It has the cosy
atmosphere characteristic of wooden houses you can feel
the aura of the past years. At first, the impressive
house was a semi - detached house.
In this house lived Mihkel Varrik, director of the formed girls gymnasium in Viljandi, as well as the former Major of Viljandi, mr. Albert Vilms, with their families. Friedebert Tuglas, a famouse writer, lived in this house in 1944. Afterwards chemist and textile scientist in USA Dr. Erik Kissa lived this house durning his gymnasium years. The house is located on the main road leading forward Tartu. Although it is situated in a busy area, you cannot hear the traffic as the beautiful garden keeps the noise away. The good location enables to get to the beach, Old Town and Castle ruins in short time.
You are warmly welcome to our guesthouse Alice! |
